It was sometime around the year 2003 that I first started getting serious about photography. With a traditional background in visual design and a keen eye for unique and interesting perspectives, I picked up my first “real” camera, a Canon 10D and immediately fell in love.
At that time, I had a focus on capturing the adventures and antics of my friends, who mostly consisted of rock climbers and mountain bikers. This gave me my first published images in a national magazine (Decline Magazine) and quickly lead to my first commercial client (Labatt Breweries). After a few years of working as an agency graphic designer with photography being a weekend affair, I decided it was time to dive in full time – and I have never looked back.
Since then I have been fortunate enough to work with hundreds of amazing clients, both couples and organizations, in bringing them high quality, creative and evocative imagery.
In 2012 I decided to pursue a dream that I had as a boy, to move West, climb mountains and be closer to nature. With this I packed my bags, headed West and eventually found myself in the beautiful city of Nanaimo, BC – a place which I proudly call home.
When not photographing weddings and events, I can be found zipping along single track trails on my bike, exploring coastal waters in the kayak or rock climbing under the sunshine. Some of my favourite places on Vancouver Island include Tofino, Strathcona Park and Horne Lake.
My Fine Art Prints can be viewed at Thorpe Photography.
